Refugio Beach Oil Spill Response Unified Command representatives will be on-site to observe excavation on bluff west of Refugio State Beach


Media availability to observe excavation operations and ask questions about this inland phase of the response.

Photography and filming will be allowed, though no images of the railroad line are allowed due to security concerns. An elevated platform will be available to observe the work. Any attendee that wishes to enter the work zone must wear steel toed boots, and will be outfitted at the site with appropriate personal protective equipment and can have a closer look at the operations. All attendees should wear closed toed shoes for safety.

North of Refugio State Beach, US Highway 101. To get to the work site from Santa Barbara, take US 101 North. Make a u-turn onto US 101 South approximately 2.3 miles past exit 120.

Drive past the first operating site (Drop Point 7) where US 101 South becomes one lane.

Park on the shoulder and walk toward the operations area and be met by a Unified

Command Joint Information Center Field Press Office, and his cell number is 415-694-8840.
